BDSM and kink munches in Montreal
A munch is a get-together in a public place. A bar, a restaurant, sometimes a park in summer. People eat and talk, and that is all of it: no play, no nudity, nothing resembling a party. It is the easiest way to meet people from the scene when you know nobody, which is why most people start here.
What it looks like
One long table, ten to forty people depending on the group. Everyone drifts in over the announced hour. Kink comes up the way anything else would, usually less than you would expect. Many munches book under the group name rather than a person’s, precisely so nobody has to announce themselves out loud on the way in.
Going for the first time
You can come alone, half the room did. Dress normally: there is no dress code, and showing up in gear would be the one real misstep. Nobody will ask what you are into. If you want to leave after twenty minutes, you leave, it happens all the time.
What it opens up
Workshops and parties often fill by word of mouth, and many organizations announce dates at the munch before publishing them. It is also where you pick up a group’s customs, which are written down nowhere and differ from one collective to the next.
