Dance nights with a fetish dress code. People come for the music, to be seen, and to run into everyone. Play is usually limited or absent, which is what sets them apart from play parties. These are the biggest events on the Montreal scene, and often the easiest first outing.

The dress code

Leather, latex, harness, uniform, lingerie depending on the night. It is nearly always stated on the ticket page, and enforced at the door: several nights turn people away in street clothes, no exceptions and no refund. All black is the minimum accepted almost everywhere while you own nothing yet.

Before you go

Tickets often sell out ahead for the big dates. Most venues have a coat check where you can change on site, which saves crossing the city in gear. Photography is restricted or banned, and it is announced — in a scene where being seen in the wrong place costs a job, the rule is taken seriously.

Dressing without going broke

Renting costs less than buying for a first time, and several shops in the city do it. Latex needs lubricant and patience to get into, which nobody mentions before the first attempt. A harness over black works anywhere and gets reused every night out.
